Launched in Spring 2025, the Native American and Indigenous Studies (NAIS) Certificate marks a groundbreaking step forward in Indigenous-centered scholarship at Yale. Open to all Yale College undergraduates, this interdisciplinary program fosters a deep engagement with Indigenous languages, cultures, histories, and lifeways.
Through coursework across the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, students will explore themes like sovereignty, environment, politics, and Indigenous intellectual traditions. The program requires five courses from at least three disciplinary areas, engagement with community events at Yale and beyond, and the option to complete a capstone project.
Applications open in Fall 2025. To express interest, email a brief letter of intent to Professors Ned Blackhawk (ned.blackhawk@yale.edu) and Claire Bowern (claire.bowern@yale.edu).
